What a wonderful old mysterious house we have,
Room after room, space after space,
And what we could do with it!
It could be so beautiful, with a little love.
Here is my childhood room –
Longer, brighter and higher than it ever was
How perfect for the girls
They would be able to have a curtain between them
When they wanted space
But still be together
How beautiful the crisp white walls and the transparent curtain billowing!
How beautiful the clean sunlight on the pure, high walls!
‘But what about the haunted rooms?’ You ask
And I push my fingers quickly to your lips,
Because my boy is listening.
