Too many girls

Too many girls learn to put themselves second

That this is the source of caring

And that caring is their nature

It feels so good

To put self aside and care.

And then this terrible fear comes

Of the world

Because how do you protect yourself

If you are always second?

And then this terrible fear comes

Maybe defending yourself

Is a forbidden act

An act of aggression

And aggression is so wicked

Even if you could not protect yourself at the time

Speaking out afterwards is an act of wicked aggression

A disturbance of the peace.

Too many girls believe that peace is more important than safety

And they abandon themselves

To silence.

But if they dare speak, men and women will applaud,

Like a sudden flight of birds

And disturb the peace of the complacent

With unbearable clamour

And all the hateful words then elicited

Will be lost in that cacophony of care
