horse

‘Fascination with horses predated every other single thing I knew. Before I was a mother, before I was a writer, before I knew the facts of life, before I was a schoolgirl, before I learned to read, I wanted a horse.’

It would be a joy to have a horse, but what a privilege it is to be trusted with other people’s – like they are lending their heart to you for a while, to take care of. And not only that, they are saying to their horse – I trust you to adapt to the difference of a new rider, to be gentle and willing, but of course I’ll still forgive you if she ends up in the dirt! What a lovely act of open-heartedness on all sides.
