    This is a little off-topic, but I recently watched Peter Ackroyd’s series on The Romantics and discovered something interesting. Did you know that the so-called ‘Year Without a Summer’ and the year that Byron sojourned in Geneva with the Shelleys were one and the same – namely 1816?

      • Yes, for me it sheds a whole new light (or lack thereof) on the creation of ‘Frankenstein.’ The year before (1815,) the largest known eruption in over 1,300 years took place in Indonesia, causing global climatic abnormalities for the next two years, including mid-summer frost in America and electrical storms in Europe… so Mary Shelley had no choice but to sit inside and listen to the ravings of Byron and Percy…
